David Brennan Youmans

December 10, 1965 - July 4, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the Death of David Brennan Youmans, 58, who transitioned on Thursday, July 4, in Savannah, Georgia, from post-surgical complications. David was born December 10, 1965, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Barbara and Vincent Youmans III, where he grew up and attended Friends school. After high school, he moved to Vermont to attend Norwich University, where he earned his bachelor's degree.

David was a loyal friend and loved traveling the world. His journeys took him to Russia, New Zealand, Greece, Bosnia, Cyprus, Spain, and across the United States. Dave was always up for an adventure; if that involved visiting different places and seeing friends, he was there.

David's profound love for nature was a defining part of his life. He cherished every moment spent outdoors, whether hiking, kayaking, scuba diving, or horseback riding. Among his many careers, he found his greatest joy working for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy in Southwest Virginia, where he met his life partner, Amanda while working on the trail.

David's warm smile and witty jokes could light up a room. He had a unique ability to connect with almost anyone, including animals. It seemed that every animal loved Dave, and he wanted to be friends and play with every one of them (even if he was allergic).

David is survived by his mother, Barbara Youmans, brother, Vincent Youmans IV, and life partner, Amanda Kulkoski. David was preceded in death by his father, Vincent Youmans III.

In remembrance, the family suggests donating to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, appalachiantrail.org, in Memory of David Youmans, aka "Ranger Dave."

Please share any of your stories about David in the comments section.

Barbara, Amanda, and Vincent, Maximilien and I are sending you all our love and sympathy while you grieve remarkable Dave. He was the light in the room and I always gravitated towards him. We went to a concert together to support our Stagehand brother drummer, Luke. We had no idea what kind of music was awaiting us. It was heavy metal and we were the oldest people there. We joked how we were Mom and Dad - the old folks at the young kids concert. Dave wanted so badly to go into the mosh pit, but I had to keep reminding him that he had a bad knee. And more recently we went to support our IATSE 320 sister, Leah to watch The Music Man performed by special needs kids. I asked him after the musical if he cried and he said, « The entire time from start to finish. » Dave was such a fun and sensitive soul who made me laugh constantly. I could just look at Dave and would laugh and smile. I promise to never forget him and honor him always.

Barbara, Amanda, Vince, friends and family! Dave teaches us about being joyful in the present — being love, being curious and being light are his key energy signatures. This image is great as he is looking back and smiling. I feel him saying, “You’ve got this! I am in your hearts now. Completely close and forever! I’m not going nowhere, just right there in your heart!” Here are some golden words of healing: “ This body is not me, I am not caught in this body. I am life without boundaries. I have never been born, and I shall never die. Look at the ocean and the sky filled with stars, manifestations of my wondrous true mind. Since before time, I have been free. Birth and death are only doors through which we pass, sacred thresholds on our journey. Birth and death are just a game of hide and seek. So laugh with me, hold my hand, let us say goodbye, say goodbye, to meet again soon. We meet today. We will meet again tomorrow. We will meet at the source at every moment. We meet each other in all forms of life. “ —Buddha Holding your hearts, Wyatt, Florence, Wayne and Sharokin
